Colonne di San Lorenzo

The Colonne di San Lorenzo are a row of 16 ancient Roman columns standing in front of the Basilica of San Lorenzo, and one of the most beloved meeting points for young people in Milan. By day it's a quiet patch of history; by night the square fills with international students, buskers and the easy buzz of people gathering before heading out. The bars around the square serve some of the cheapest drinks in the city centre, which is exactly why it has become the unofficial living room of Milan's student community. If it's your first week in the city, this is where you come to meet people — show up on any warm evening, sit on the steps, and you'll never be alone for long. The area is well connected by tram and a short walk from the Navigli, making it a natural starting point for a night out.
